How a lithophane lamp gets made, from your photo to your shelf
A lithophane looks like a blank white panel until it's backlit — then a photograph appears in the light. Here's the process behind it.

What a lithophane actually is
It's a relief print — a panel where the thickness of the material at every point corresponds to the brightness of a pixel in your photo. Thin spots let more light through and read as bright; thick spots read as dark. Held up to daylight it looks like a plain textured sheet. Backlit, it resolves into your photograph.
From your upload to a piece you can hold
- You upload a photo at checkout, or email it to us after ordering.
- We convert it into a lithophane and send you a digital preview before anything is printed — you approve it, or ask for another crop or a different photo.
- Production starts only after your approval. Personalized pieces are printed to order in about 3 days.
- The panel is set into the lamp body and paired with a certified LED or E27/E14 fitting, then hand-finished and inspected before it ships.
Why we ask for approval first
A lithophane's detail depends entirely on contrast and lighting in the source photo — a portrait against a busy background prints differently than one against a plain wall. Seeing the preview before we print means you're never surprised by the result, and it's why we can't accept returns on personalized pieces for change of mind: it's made for the one photo you approved.
